At Rara Avis Objects, we are more than just a jewelry company—we are a community devoted to empowering women and shining a light on an often-hidden truth: abuse isn’t always physical.
When we think of abuse, we tend to picture bruises or broken walls, but the reality is far more insidious. Emotional abuse, though invisible, can be just as damaging as physical violence, leaving scars on the heart and mind that destroy beautiful spirits.
When women find themselves trapped in emotionally abusive relationships, they are often unable to identify the subtle patterns of control and manipulation that bind them. This is because all too often we talk about abuse as a physical problem, rather than emotional. This can lead to feelings of confusion, isolation, and helplessness.
This kind of abuse is NOT physical and can exist without any physical intimidation. It can look like lies that erode trust- and yes,
even "small" lies count, omissions that leave you intentionally misled and questioning your reality, intimidating silences ("the Silent Treatment" IS abuse), or endless rages designed to keep you small and afraid. It can sound like lectures meant to control you, or declarations of dominance that strip you of your voice. Rages, often "excused" as normal behavior, are never appropriate in an intimate relationship, and are highly indicative of emotional abuse. Emotional abuse leads to a slow unraveling of your self-worth, leaving you stuck in a fog of confusion and pain.
